The former FIFA World Player of the Year and Ballon d'Or winner was in South Africa for a Heineken-sponsored event.
During a chat with our team, he gave his views on the Messi-Ronaldo rivalry, insisting that it's too difficult to choose between the two superstars.
"It's really not possible to say. They are both excellent players and they are often compared to each other by the media," he told Rossella Marrai-Ricco and David Kappel.
"They are both footballers... They have equal quality and I can't choose.
"Ronaldo is Portuguese, though, and I have played with him, so I do hope he wins it (the Ballon d'Or) again.
"For me, he is excellent and I can only wish him well."
Figo, who is one of the few players who played for both Barcelona and Real, also commented on who could potentially end Messi and Ronaldo's eight-year Ballon d'Or reign.
"Someone will definitely break it," he added.
"There is a new generation coming through and everything has its own turn.
"They have dominated for so long, but it's hard to say exactly which players will be next, though."
