Real Madrid missed the chance to go top of the LaLiga standings after they were held to a goalless draw by Rayo Vallecano on Sunday evening.

Result: Real Madrid 0-0 Rayo Vallecano

Date: 05 November 2023

Venue: Santiago Bernabeu

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti made four changes to the side that beat Barcelona in the El Clasico, as Fran Garcia, Eduardo Camavinga, Luka Modric and Joselu were brought back.

Los Blancos had a quick start as Federico Valverde had a great chance within five minutes after going through on goal but his shot was saves by goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski.

Rayo had rare chances after 20 minutes as they forced Madrid into mistakes Alvaro Garcia had a chance after going through on goal but he fired his shot across goal wide.

Carlo Ancelotti's charges gained momentum towards the end of the first stanza as Vinicius Junior drew an acrobatic save from Dimitrievski and on the stroke of half-time Jude Bellingham was denied by crossbar.

Madrid had complete control of the game from the break and created plenty of chances but they were not accurate enough, as Dimitrievski also remained on top of his game.

Ancelotti took his time before making changes and eventually made a double tactical change with 20 minutes to go, as Rodrygo and Toni Kroos came on for Garcia and Modric.

Rodrygo almost broke the deadlock for Los Blancos just after coming on with a side-footed shot that missed slightly past the upright against the run of play.

Madrid continued to threaten in the dying minutes as they pinned back Rayo in their own half but despite a long stoppage time, the hosts could not take their chances and were held to a goalless draw.

Los Blancos find themselves two points behind leaders Girona in second spot on the table and two points ahead of third-placed Barcelona.
