Barca Drop Points Once Again, Title Race Still On?

LaLiga leaders FC Barcelona dropped points for the second successive game after being held to a goalless draw by Getafe on Sunday.

Result: Getafe 0-0 Barcelona

Date: 16 April 2023

Venue: Coliseum Alfonso Pérez

Xavi Hernandez made two changes from the goalless draw against Girona on Monday, with Jordi Alba and Franck Kessie being recalled while Ansu Fati and Eric Garcia dropped to the bench.

However, 15 minutes into the clash, Xavi was forced to make a change as Sergi Roberto's afternoon came to an early after picking up an injury and he was replaced by Garcia.

Barcelona had to wait until the 25th minute for their big chance as Robert Lewandowski's knock-on sent Raphinha clear on goal, but the Brazilian saw his strike crash against the upright.

Getafe, who have been Barcelona's bogey side over the years, struggled to get anything going on the attack as they struggled to get their opponents off the ball for most of the half.

Xavi's charges nearly got the goal on the stroke of halftime when Sergio Busquets did well to pick out Lewandowski in the box and he managed to get a shot away but goalkeeper Fabrizio Angileri pulled off the save.

It was all Barcelona in the second half as Kessie forced Angileri into a fine save on 54 minutes, before Lewandowski went wide with a close range header from Alba's cross a minute later.

With the visitors still finding it tough to break down Getafe's defence, Xavi opted for a double change with just over 28 minutes to go as Ferran Torres and Fati replaced Alba and Kessie.

Getafe almost snatch the lead with three minutes left on the clock as a Portu's cross deflected into the path of Borja Mayoral, who dragged his shot just wide of the upright.

Barcelona, however, were unable to find a way to get past Angileri in the latter stages of the half, leaving the side to settle for a share of the spoils.
