Result: FC Barcelona 1-1 Cadiz
Date: 21 February 2021
Venue: Camp Nou
FC Barcelona's LaLiga title hopes took a major hit after dropping points against Cadiz, who netted a late equaliser at the Camp Nou on Sunday afternoon.
The Catalan giants were looking to get back on the winning trail after the emphatic loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, as Messi continued up top with Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele.
Ronald Koeman's charges dominated in the early exchanges, with Jordi Alba and Messi going close with a couple of efforts from distance inside the opening 20 minutes.
The hosts were eventually awarded a penalty on 31 minutes when the talented Pedri was brought down in the box, which allowed Messi step up and covert the opening goal from 12 yards.
Cadiz, meanwhile, were unable to create any sustaining momentum in the first half as Barcelona shot-stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen enjoyed a quiet opening 45 minutes between the sticks.
Unfortunately, it was more of the same in the second half as the visitors struggled to get a touch of the ball while the Catalan giants were quite happy just to move the ball around.
Cadiz responded with a triple change on the hour mark as Jose Mari, Alex and Anthony Lozano were introduced with the hope of turning their fortunes around.
It was Barcelona who looked more likely to get the second goal as Messi went inches wide of the upright with a curling effort from 25 yards out on 75 minutes.
However, the triple change paid off as Cadiz were awarded a penalty on 90 minutes when Clement Lenglet had fouled Sobrino in the box, which allowed Alex to convert the spot-kick to earn the visitors a point at the Camp Nou.
