Rodrygo played a starring role as Real Madrid defeated Cadiz 3-0 to move top of LaLiga on Sunday evening.

Venue: Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla

Coach Carlo Ancelotti was forced to make a change just before the clash as Brahim Diaz was replaced by Rodrygo, as Jude Bellingham, Antonio Rudiger and Luka Modric were also recalled.

While Los Blancos did lose Diaz to illness before the game, Rodrygo made the most of his chance by opening the scoring in the 14th minute with a mazy individual run before firing into the top corner.

The Madrid outfit continued to dominate thereafter but they were finding it tough to carve out any more chances in the final third, giving Cadiz some hope of getting back into the tie.

Cadiz did manage to carve out a chance five minutes before the halftime break when Roger Martí unleashed a strike from distance that forced goalkeeper Andriy Lunin into a fine save.

Nevertheless, Los Blancos carried their dominance into the second half but had to wait until the 64th minute for the second goal when Modric turned provider to pick out the run of Rodrygo who slotted home to complete his brace.

That proved to be Modric's last major involvement as the veteran midfielder made way for Dani Ceballos, while the home side introduced Maxi Gomez and Ivi for Chris Ramos and Victor.

However, Los Blancos would go on to end any hopes of a Cadiz comeback ni the 74th minute when Rodrygo surged into the box before teeing up Bellingham, who slotted home his 14th goal across all competitions.

Ancelotti's men were unable to add to their tally in the latter stages but the job was already done, as they moved top with the win although Girona are in action on Monday night.
