Atletico Madrid and England star Kieran Tripper has been slapped with a 10-week ban from all football-related activities and fined R1.3 million for breaching betting rules. Here are the bets he is believed to have got into trouble for.
On Monday, the Football Association announced that the 30-year-old will not be able to take part in any football-related activities for the next 10 weeks and must pay a fine of £70 000 (R1.3 million).
Tripper will only be available for selection for club and country again in March, with the FA stating that the former Burnley defender had been found guilty on four of the seven alleged charges.
The offences reportedly took place in July 2019, around the time he completed his surprise switch from Tottenham Hotspur to Los Rojiblancos in Spain. Tripper has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
Reports across Europe suggest that Tripper might have benefited financially from his transfer from Spurs to Atletico, although, according to the Daily Mail, the fullback might be the victim of bets made by friends of his.
The abovementioned publication reports that people close to the England right-back might have placed bets on his move to Spain without his knowledge based on "information that had been relayed in private".
When he responded to the charges in May this year, Trippier said: "I want to make it clear that, while a professional footballer, I have at no stage placed any football-related bets or received any financial benefit from others betting."
Atletico were said to be furious with the FA on Monday, believing they were kept in the dark over the punishment their player, who has played every LaLiga game this season, was to be handed.
