Villarreal 2-3 Real Madrid

Real Madrid booked their spot in the quarter-finals after overcoming a two-goal deficit to edge Villarreal 3-2 at Estadio de la Ceramica.

Los Blancos made two changes from their defeat against Barcelona in the El Clasico Super Cup final, as Rodrygo was recalled to join Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior in attack in place of Luka Modric and Nacho took the place of Dani Carvajal.

Villarreal started brightly, as Etienne Capou fired them ahead within four minutes with a first-time shot from a flick on in the box by Gerard Moreno.

As Madrid committed numbers forward, they were caught on a counter-attack just before the interval after Samuel Chukwueze doubled the Yellow Submarine's lead with a clinical finish in the box from a through ball by Moreno.

Los Blancos reduced the deficit shortly before the hour-mark thanks to a composed finish in the box by Vinicius Junior.

Eder Militao pulled Los Blancos level on 69 minutes with a toe-poke in the box from a rebound after Benzema's shot was parried by shot-stopper Filip Jorgensen.

Dani Caballos fired home the winner for Carlo Ancelotti's charges four minutes before time with a first-time shot from the edge of the box.

AD Ceita 0-5 FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona cruised to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey after brushing aside third-tier side AD Ceita courtesy of a brace by Robert Lewandowski at Estadio Municipal Alfonso Marube.

Barca shuffled the pack, especially from the back to midfield but fielded a strong attack, as Ferran Torres and Raphinha flanked Robert Lewandowski upfront.

Blaugrana could not carve out clear chances in the early stages and had a scare on the half-hour mark after Ceuta's Rodri had a free header from a corner that hit the side-netting.

It took a moment of brilliance for the Catalan giants to break the deadlock just before the interval after Raphinha curled a strike into the far corner from out of the box.

Barca had a perfect start in the second stanza as Lewandowski doubled their lead with a strike in the bottom corner.

Blaugrana were refreshed after making changes as Anssumane Fati came off the bench to put the visitors out of sight with 20 minutes to go.

The provider of the first two goals, Franck Kessie made it 4-0 for Xavi's men in the last 13 minutes with a powerful header from Raphinha's cross.

Lewandowski completed the rout in the last minute with a low drive after a swift attack to complete his brace in the process.
