Carles Puyol Reveals Bet He Made After Barcelona Hired Xavi Hernandez

Carles Puyol Reveals Bet He Made After Barcelona Hired Xavi Hernandez

Following Barcelona's 4-2 win over Napoli on Thursday night, Carles Puyol revealed the bet he made after the club appointed Xavi Hernandez as manager.

Despite a rampant display at the Camp Nou last week, the Blaugrana walked away with only a point after a 1-1 draw against Napoli in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League Knockout Round Play-off, a game filled with missed chances for the home side.

On Thursday night, however, the Catalans were able to find more clinical form in front of goal as they defeated the Italian giants 4-2 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium to progress to the next stage.

After the game, ex-Barca captain Puyol admitted he could not hide his excitement when Xavi was appointed as head coach, and even went as far as to put a wager on his former teammate bringing the LaLiga title back to the club.

"When Barca hired Xavi, I said we would win the league, I bet a dinner," he wrote on Twitter, according to Barca Blaugranes.

"I don't know if I'll pay for it, but what I know for sure is that I like this team. And I'm sure it will give us joy, sooner rather than later."

Xavi has lost four matches since taking charge of Barcelona in November last year, although his side's recent form suggests fans can look forward to what is to come.

The Spanish giants have 16 goals in their past six matches across all competitions, a run that includes a 4-2 win over Atletico Madrid, a 4-1 victory over Valencia and their most recent triumph over Napoli.
