Puyol enjoyed a glittering 15-year career with the LaLiga giants, clinching every club trophy on offer. Widely considered to be one of the greatest defenders of his generation, the 40-year-old was recently asked his opinion on who he thinks is the world's best defender, and he did not hesitate to make mention of one his former Blaugrana centre-back partners.
"Gerard Pique, without a doubt," he told Marca when asked who the best defender in the world is.
Puyol was then asked if the former Manchester United star ranks as a better defender than Ramos and himself.

"Yes, he's the best central defender in the world. We're different. He is key to Barcelona in everything he contributes, in his leadership. He's a phenomenon and a great friend," Puyol continued.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup winner also spoke about Barcelona's percieved reliance on record goalscorer Lionel Messi.
"When you have the best player in history, it's logical that you depend on him. However, there have been great players around him who are making history too," he added.
The Blaugrana great, who was promoted to the first-team and handed his top flight debut by Louis van Gaal, spoke on the differences between the former Manchester United mentor, Frank Rijkaard and Pep Guardiola, claiming that he most enjoyed his years under the tutelage of the current Manchester City boss Guardiola.
"Van Gaal was key, as he trusted me in a difficult moment and gave me my debut," Puyol said.
"I appreciate everything I've been able to experience. Frank Rijkaard was very important and the years with Pep were the ones I enjoyed the most."
