The International Federation of Football History Statistics (IFFHS) has released their annual list of the world's top 100 leagues.
For the first time since 2009, the English Premier League sits at the top of the ranking, mainly thanks to the performances of Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League, as well as the league's strong results in the UEFA Europa League.
LaLiga has fallen from first into third place, with the Brazilian Serie A overtaking the Spanish league, which led the ranking for the last six years.

The biggest surprise among the top 10 was that the German Bundesliga dropped into 10th position, its worst result since the inception of the ranking in 1991.
The Tunisian Ligue 1 is the strongest African league and sits in 15th position overall, while the Moroccan Botola Pro (17th overall) and Egyptian Premier League (31st overall) complete the three highest-ranked divisions on the continent.
South Africa's Premier Soccer League appears in 50th position world-wide and in sixth on the continent, two spots behind the Angolan Girabola.

Note: The ranking takes into consideration the results of each league's teams in continental and intercontinental competitions between 1 January and 31 December 2019.
