Ghana Star Makes Admission After Allegiance Switch

After deciding to make himself available for Ghana despite being born in Spain, Inaki Williams has made a big admission following his international allegiance switch ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Athletic Bilbao forward made his debut for the Black Stars in September after announcing his decision to represent the African giants in the build-up to the global showpiece in Qatar.

Williams, whose brother Nico is in Spain's World Cup squad, appeared just once for the European nation, in a friendly encounter in 2016, but seemed far from Luis Enrique's plans before deciding to make the switch.

The 28-year-old has since admitted that choosing to avail himself for Ghana was not an easy decision, but the memory of his grandfather inspired him to go down this path.

"For my parents, it was not easy to accept, but in the end my grandfather helped me make the decision," he told The Athletic.

"He wanted me to fulfil his dream, to see me as a Black Star with the Ghana national team.

"The truth is that all I achieve with this team is for him."

The LaLiga centre-forward is expected to start for Ghana in their opening World Cup match against Portugal on Thursday evening as he looks to open his international account.
