FIFA Club World Cup
Result: Paris Saint-Germain 4-0 Inter Miami
Date: 29 June 2025
Venue: Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Both sides were at full strength for the encounter, as Messi lined up against his former side for the first time since leaving Paris in 2023.
The French giants got off to the perfect start when un-marked Joao Neves snuck in at the far post and nodded home a free-kick from countryman Vitinha.
It was one-way traffic in the first half as the Major League Soccer side spent most of the first stanza in their own half and they were lucky not to be punished by PSG, who squandered a couple good openings.
However, Luis Enrique's men went on to grab their second goal seven minutes before the halftime as Bradley Barcola won the ball high up before playing in Fabian Ruiz, who unselfishly set up Neves for the simple tap-in to complete his brace.
There was enough time for PSG to grab a third goal a minute before the interval when Desire Doue broke free down the right flank and a sent a powerful cross into the box, which was turned home by Miami defender Tomás Aviles.
A fourth goal arrived on the stroke of halftime when full-back Achra Hakimi got his name on the score-sheet with a close-range finish after some good work by Barcola.
With PSG comfortably leading, Enrique decided to ring the changes as Ousmane Dembele, Lucas Hernandez and Lee Kang-In came in for Neves, Nuno Mendes and Hakimi with 20 minutes left on the clock.
The MLS side were a lot more livelier on the counter-attack as the half went but they had to wait until the 74th minute for a big chance but Tadeo Allende saw his towering header saved by PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
That proved to be the final opening of the game as Enrique's men saw out the closing stages with relative ease.
