Club World Cup
Result: ES Tunis 0-3 Al Ain
Date: 15 December 2018
Venue: Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium
African champions ES Tunis failed to advance to FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals after they lost 3-0 to Al Ain on Saturday evening.
Al Ain were already in action earlier in the week, as they dispatched Team Wellington on penalties.
It was the Arabian outfit who got off to the good start, with Mohamed Ahamed finding the back of the net after just two minutes.
The lead was doubled in the 16th minute thanks to a strike from Hussein Elshahat as the African champions looked shell-shocked after the early setback.
It took a while for Esperance to get going in the first half, as Mohammed Belaili and Rayan Yaslem tried their luck from distance after before the 40-minute mark.
Esperance came out with the same fighting spirit in the second half, but they were only restricted to efforts from distance in the opening ten minutes.
However, the Arabian side bagged a third goal in the 60th minute, with Bandar Al Ahbabi firing home to seemingly end any chance of fight back from Esperance.
The African champions continued to push for a consolation as the second half drew to a close, but they were unsuccessful in forcing Khalid Eisa into a save.
Unfortunately for Esperance, they were unable to find anyway back into the encounter as their tournament came to an end.
Al Ain, meanwhile, advance to the final semi-final where they will face South Amerian champions River Plate.
