Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was involved in a heated tunnel bust-up with Wigan Athletic boss Paul Cook during their FA Cup tie on Monday night.

The Citizens were dumped out of the competition in the fifth round after Northern Ireland international Will Grigg scored the 79th-minute goal that secured victory for the Latics over the Premier League leaders.

The heated exchange kicked off in the first half, when City left back Fabian Delph was shown a straight red for a challenge that was deemed dangerous by referee Anthony Taylor.

The official, who was initially going to give the England international a yellow card, changed his decision at the last second, which angered Guardiola and many of the Citizens' players.

The Spaniard and his opposite number Cook were seen having a go at each other on the sideline, and this exchanged boiled over into the tunnel after the referee blew for half-time.

After the game, Guardiola insisted that nothing further happened in the tunnel.

"Nothing happened in the tunnel, nothing happened with my colleague. It was just 'please, stay in your position', that's all, and then finished." Guardiola said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Wigan manager Cook also did not dive too much into the matter.

"I think we should speak about the game. We'd all have different opinions," he said.

"There's a lot made of tackles. I felt at the time it was a straight red. I don't think Pep and his bench thought it was but that's football. We're never going to agree."
