Wolverhampton

FA Cup

Result: Liverpool 1-2 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Date: 28 January 2017

Venue: Anfield

Liverpool were dumped out of the FA Cup, after losing 2-1 to Championship outfit, Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp made a number of changes to the side and decided rest Adama Lallan, Jordan Henderson and James Milner.

Richard Stearman put Wolves ahead in the first minute of the match, as he headed home Helder Costa's in-swinging free-kick.

Liverpool were chasing the game from the start and they put all sorts of pressure on the visitors, but the Wolves defence stood firm.

Against the run of play, Wolves eventually doubled their lead through Andreas Weimann in the 41st minute.

Costa broke through in the middle of the pitch on a great run and brushed off Moreno before setting up Weimann, who rounded Loris Karius before tapping into an empty.

Liverpool had so much to do in the second-half going into the interval. They were lacklustre while Wolves deserved their 2-0 lead. They have been impressive playing a counter-attacking game which has worked wonders for them.

In the 61st minute Roberto Firmino came close to finding the equalising goal but his 25-yard strike was well saved by Burgoyne.

Liverpool were committing bodies forward but Wolves limited them to shots outside the box.

The Reds were predictable while in possession of the ball and they made things easy for Wolves who kept a good defensive shape.

In the 85th minute Divock Origi pulled a goal back for Liverpool making it 2-1 giving them hope by firing home from three-yards out.

However, the Championship outfit managed to see off a late surge from Liverpool to book their spot in the fifth round.
