Result: Brighton Hove Albion 2-1 Crystal Palace

Date: 08 January 2018

Venue: Amex Stadium

Glen Murray struck late in the second half to hand Brighton and Hove Albion a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in their third round FA Cup tie.

Five minutes into the game, Brighton were dealt a blow when Izzy Brown was forced off with an injury.

The hosts nearly went ahead after 17 minutes but Tomer Hemed could only power his header straight at Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

Brighton's pressure eventually paid off in the 25th minute when Dale Stephens surged into the box before firing a low effort past Hennessey, 1-0.

Palace, who were without Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke, struggled to carve out chances in the final third.

That proved to be the trend for the rest of the first half as Brighton went into the break leading.

The second half continued in the same fashion as the first with Brighton dominating the possession.

However, Palace managed to level matters against the run of play in the 69th minute when Bakary Sako rifled home a superb effort from 25-yards out.

With 10 minutes remaining, Brighton had a chance to restore their lead when Sam Baldock was played through on goal however the striker blazed over the crossbar with only Hennessey to beat.

However, Brighton managed to secure the win in the 88th minute when substitute Murray bundled the ball home with the slightest of touches.

Chris Hughton's charges will now face Championship side Middlesbrough in the fourth round.
