Netherlands captain Robin van Persie has had no clue that Manchester United have been trying to sell him since January, according to former national teammate Pierre van Hooijdonk.
'Man Utd Never Replaced CR7 Beckham - Until Now'
The Red Devils are reportedly happy to listen to offers for the former Arsenal man before his contract ends next summer.
Van Hooijdonk claims that Manchester United have been trying to sell Van Persie behind his back, as he has heard rumours about his availability in Turkey already.
"As early as January of this year, I received information from Turkey about Robin and Fenerbahce," Van Hooijdonk told ESPN.
"The minute this information came, you knew that United had sent people to test the water for a move.
"Agents and others were searching for big clubs who are prepared to pay the high fee involved for Van Persie. Robin's contract expires next year, so this is the moment when United can still get money for him."
Van Persie has been linked with a move to Fenerbahce, but it's not sure whether the striker is keen on a move to Turkey.
