Manchester City's struggles in the Premier League continued after suffering a 4-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday night.

Result: Manchester City 0-4 Tottenham Hotspur

Date: 23 November 2024

Venue: Etihad Stadium

Manuel Akanji, Savinho and Bernardo Silva were all recalled to the City line-up by coach Pep Guardiola, as Mateo Kovavic missed out through injury, which will keep him out for the next month.

The Citizens started like a house on fire in the early stages and managed to carve out two big chances for striker Erling Haaland, who failed to convert both opportunities in the opening ten minutes.

The visitors got the breakthrough on 12 minutes when James Maddison lost his marker and turned home Dejan Kulusevksi's cross with a composed finish at the far post.

It got better for Spurs eight minutes later when Josko Gvardiol losing possession, allowed Son Heung-min to surge forward and delightfully play in Madison, who showed great composure to slot past Ederson.

City looked to get themselves back in the contest and managed to create an opening for Phil Foden three minutes before the break but the England international ballooned his effort over the crossbar from eight yards out.

There was more of the same in the second half as Spurs added a third goal seven minutes into the second period as a swift counter-attack ended with Dominic Solanke, who rifled the ball into the far corner.

City nearly pulled one back just before the hour mark as Haaland managed to carve out space in the box and unleashed a powerful strike that crashed against the crossbar.

Citizens coach Guardiola finally made a double change for the final 20 minutes as Kevin de Bruyne and Jack Grealish replaced Savinho and Rico Lewis in midfield to try to conjure up a response.

It got worse for the defending champions as Spurs bagged a fourth goal in second-half stoppage time as Brennan Johnson got his name on the score-sheet after turning home Timo Werner's cross to round off a big win.
