Raheem Sterling scored twice against Luton earlier in the season, but was only named on the bench after returning from suspension although Cole Palmer was back in the line-up.

Palmer's return paid off after just 11 minutes when the midfielder latched onto a poor pass from Luton's Issa Kabore in the box and drilled the ball into the far corner.

Luton looked a little more livelier after going behind, but they struggled to carve out any clear-cut chances to trouble goalkeeper Dorde Petrovic between the Blues goal.

It was Chelsea who got the second goal in the 37th minute as Palmer turned provider to pick out Noni Madueka, who carved out some space before rifling the ball into the roof of the net.

The hosts made a double change at the start of the second half as Kobore and Jacob Brown made way for Tahith Chong and Chiedozie Ogbene for the final remainder of the encounter.

Luton shoed a bit more bite in the attack, with Chong proving to be real attacking outlet down the left flank however Chelsea's Petrovic remained untested.

However, the Blues added a third goal in the 69th minute as Palmer latched onto Nicolas Jackson's through-ball before showing great composure to round the goalkeeper and slot into an empty net.

Luton did pull a goal back in the 79th minute when former Blues midfielder Ross Barkley nodded home a cross Alfie Doughty at the near post.

The home side managed to reduce the deficit to one goal with with four minutes left on the clock Adebayo got his name on the score-sheet to set up a nervy final finish to the game.

However, Chelsea were able to see off a late surge from the home side to claim back-to-back wins in the Premier League.
