Result: Crystal Palace 1-2 Liverpool

Date: 09 December 2023

Venue: Selhurst Park

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp rang the changes after the win over Sheffield United, with goalkeeper Alisson Becker, Jarell Quansah, Kostas Tsimikas and Ryan Gravenberch all getting recalls.

The visiting side dominated from the onset and looked lively with the pace of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez but thet struggled to carve out any clear-cut openings at Sam Johnstone's goal.

The game's first chance fell to the home side on 27 minutes when Andre Ayew's cross found Jefferson Lerma, who saw his first-time finish saved by Alisson who pushed the effort onto the far post.

A minute later, Palace were awarded a penalty when Virgil van Dijk brought down Ayew in the box. However, Palace fans' cheers turned to boos after the referee changed his decision after spotting a foul on Wataru Endo in the build up on the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) monitor.

After a goalless first half, Palace got the breakthrough in the 57th minute after Jean-Philippe Mateta converted a penalty after lengthy VAR review for  Quansah's foul on the Palace striker in the box.

Things then turned sour for the home side in the 75th minute when they were reduced to ten men after Ayew sent off after picking up his second yellow card of the game.

Liverpool took full advantage a minute later when Salah bagged his 200th goal for the the club with a first-time finish in the box after Palace failed to clear their lines.

With ten minutes of time added on, the visiting side completed the turnaround in the 91st minute when Harvey Elliot collected a pass from Salah before sending a powerful shot into the back of the net from 20 yards.
