Liverpool moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League table after defeating Crystal Palace 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Result: Crystal Palace 0-1 Liverpool

Date: 05 October 2024

Venue: Selhurst Park

Reds manager Arne Slot made four changes from the win over -, as Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones and Konstantinos Tsimikas returned to the starting line-up.

The home side got the breakthrough after ten minutes when a well-worked passing move ended with Jota slotting home on his 100th appearance from Cody Gakpo's cross.

Slot's charges dominated proceedings thereafter and did not give Palace a minute on the ball, but they were unable to add a second goal  as Trent Alexander-Arnold saw his powerful strike saved from the edge of the box.

Palace did go close to pulling themselves level on the stroke of halftime through Sarr's cross, but goalkeeper Alisson Becker produced a fine low save to keep his side's lead intact at the break.

The Reds almost doubled their tally just before the hour mark when Mohamed Salah was picked out in the six-yard box, but the Egyptian was denied by goalkeeper Dean Henderson at point-blank range.

The game began to open up in the final 30 minutes as Alisson was called upon once again to  keep out Palace star Eberechi Eze, who unleashed a powerful from the edge of the box.

The visitors did suffer a big blow with 11 minutes to play after Alisson picked up a hamstring injury and was forced off, with Vítezslav Jaroš brought on for the final stages.

Palace should have equalised late in the game but Eze squandered a glorious chance in one-on-one situation by firing straight at Jaros, as the Reds held on for the win.
