Premier League

Result: Chelsea 2-5 West Bromwich Albion

Date: 03 April 2021

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Chelsea suffered their first defeat under Thomas Tuchel after losing 5-2 to relegation-threatened West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.

It was a lively start to the encounter as both sides looked to get the early goal as West Brom's Matheus Pereira was denied by Edouard Mendy while Marcos Alonso was denied at the other end.

The deadlock was eventually broken on 27 minutes when Christian Pulisic fired home from close range after Alonso's free-kick had rattled the frame of the goal.

The Blues were dealt a blow two minutes later when Thiago Silva was sent off after picking up his second yellow card of the encounter.

Former Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, who replaced O'Shea earlier in the half, was unable to finish the game himself as he picked up a thigh injury in the final 10 minutes of the half and was replaced by Callum Robinson.

However, West Brom pulled level in first-half stoppage time as Johnstone's pass from the back sailed over the Blues defence and found Pereira who lobbed the on-rushing Mendy.

There was enough time for the visitors to take the lead as Periera showed great composure to slot into the bottom corner from just inside the box.

With Chelsea pushing for an equaliser, it was the Baggies who got the next goal on the break courtesy of superb first-time finish from Robinson off Darnell Furlong's cross just after the hour mark.

West Brom added a fourth goal in the 68th minutes as a superb counter-attacking move ended with Mbaye Diagne calmly slotting into the bottom corner.

The Blues pulled another goal back in the 70th minute when Timo Werner unselfishly teed up Mason Mount, who slotted into an empty net from close range.

However, West Brom had the final say as Robinson completed his brace in the 90th minute with a clever lofted finish over Mendy to round off an impressive victory at Stamford Bridge.
