Manchester United's top four hopes suffered another blow after a disappointing 1-1 draw at Brentford on Saturday night.

Result: Brentford 1-1 Manchester United

Venue: Gtech Community Stadium

Erik ten Hag went with the same side that started the win over Liverpool in the FA Cup before the international break, while Lisandro Martinez was back in the squad after recovering from injury.

The game got off to a lively start as both sides saw a bit of the ball early on, but chances were few and far between at both ends.

The game's first big chance fell to the home side on 23 minutes when Wissa did well to slip Ivan Toney through on goal but with only Andre Onana to beat, the strike saw his strike hit the upright.

The woodwork came to the Red Devils' rescue once again as a well-worked corner ended with an un-marked Mathias Jorgensen steering his header onto the crossbar with Onan well beaten.

After a quiet first half, United nearly got the breakthrough eight minutes after the break when Bruno Fernandes slipped in Rasmu Hojlund, who saw his strike superb saved by Flekken.

Ten Hag responded with a change soon after that as Alejandro Garnacho made way after a quiet evening and was replaced by Antony, who scored in the win over Liverpool two weeks ago.

After losing Raphael Varane at halftime to injury, the visiting side suffered another injury blow in defence as Victory Lindelof was forced off and replaced by the returning Martinez.

Wit time running out, Brentford went agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock when Bryan Mbeumo latched on to Flekken's long pass and unleashed a powerful volley that crashed against the crossbar.

It was the Red Devils who got the breakthrough in the sixth minute of time added on as substitute Mason Mount collected a pass from Casemiro before firing into the top corner.

However, the lead did not last too long as Brentford got back level a minute later when some good hold up play Toney ended with Kristoffer Ajer slamming from close range to earn his side a share of the spoils.
