The news of Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs' tragic killing has reached the world's biggest publications abroad following his death in South Africa on Wednesday.

Late on Wednesday night, Soccer Laduma reported that the former SuperSport United centre-back was murdered during a hijacking in Johannesburg.
A host of tributes from clubs and players in South Africa have since poured in for the 24-year-old, whom police confirmed was shot and killed at a petrol station as he waited to be helped by an attendant before the armed suspects fled the scene in Fleurs' VW Golf 8 GTI.
The defender, who joined Chiefs in October last year after leaving SuperSport as a free agent, was yet to make his debut for the Soweto giants.
As a manhunt ensues for Fleurs' killers, multiple publications abroad have covered the heartbreaking incident, including United States and England-based media house The Athletic.

The BBC, meanwhile, also reported on Fleurs' passing and referenced the way in which Chiefs described him on their official website, that being a "classy defender" with "great technical abilities".
In addition, the Daily Mail touched on South Africa's worrying crime statistics in their article covering the news, saying the country "suffers from extremely high crime rates – a key political issue ahead of general elections in May, with opposition parties pointing to the government's perceived failure".

Having represented SA at youth level, Fleurs sadly passes without having turned out for Bafana Bafana. He did, however, appear in the DStv Premiership on 65 occasions.
