Manchester City's 115 charges for allegedly breaching football's financial regulations date back to November 2018, with the Premier League officially announcing the charges in February 2023, causing controversy among the remaining clubs within the league.

According to The Independent, clubs across the league believe the case will linger until October 2025, and speculation grew rife that the verdict could be handed down during the second international break of the season between 4-18 October.

A similar situation occurred last season when the hearing concluded in December, but the situation has carried on into the upcoming campaign, creating possible disruptions for the new season.

The details of the process have remained quiet and onlt those involved in the case know the true sensitivity of the full matter at hand.

Several Premier League insiders reveal that the case has had an effect on instituting proper governance as now clubs have become increasingly hesitant to suggest major changes in the running of the competition.

Clubs have also been split on the should happen to the eight-time Premier League champions should the most severe charges be placed on City. A minority would push for expulsion, while others are in favour of a punishment to allow the league to get on with things as the controversy is is causing a shadow over the league.

The issue has also raised the question of whether or not the Citizens should face immediate sanctions or whether there would be an appeal first.

A senior club executive revealed that it was unlikely that any change would happen, even one year after the outcome due to the stages of the process so far.
