Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is better than Sergio Ramos and should be considered the best defender in the world, according to a Liverpool star.

The Spaniard has been involved in a war of words with Liverpool over the past few months following the fallout from last season's UEFA Champions League final.
Croatia international Dejan Lovren was often the target of criticism for the Reds defensive woes before Virgil van Dijk arrived, but he feels Ramos is prone to making to more mistakes than him.
"People always catch you on these mistakes, they don't look (at the) good things. Sometimes I think I don't deserve the hate, I would say," Lovren was quoted as saying by ESPN.
"If you look, Ramos, he has many more mistakes than me. But he's at Real Madrid. Ronaldo, a couple of seasons ago, when you do a mistake, but you win 5-1, 5-2, nobody sees the mistake. You know what I mean.
"I'm, like, quite unlucky. When I make the mistake it's 1-0 and finish. But like I said, I carry on."
When asked if he thought Varane was a better defender than Ramos, he replied: "Definitely. For me, at this moment and previous years, yeah.
"He (Varane) won the Champions League, he won the World Cup (with France), so he should be the best defender in the world. I think Ramos was it, they chose Ramos? That's the decision which you cannot change."
