Jamie Carragher has expressed his deep disappointment with Salah following the Egyptian's recent comments regarding his contract situation, which could see him leave Liverpool after eight highly successful years at Anfield.
Salah's current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and after scoring a brace in Liverpool's dramatic 3-2 victory over Southampton on Sunday, the 32-year-old revealed that he has not received any offers from the club to extend his stay.
He also added that he is "probably more out than in," a remark that has clearly not sat well with Carragher.
Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, Carragher said: "Of course there've been discussions. Right now, there's obviously a big difference in the valuation, what Mo Salah and his agent value themselves at, whether that's financially or in terms of the length of the contract, to what Liverpool do. The reason Liverpool haven't offered a contract yet is because Mo Salah will turn it down. So, they're still in talks, maybe... I'm desperate for them to meet in the middle. But I must say, I am very disappointed with Mo Salah."
When asked by presenter David Jones why he felt that way, Carragher elaborated: "That interview yesterday, last night after the game, and it comes out today... Liverpool have got Real Madrid midweek and Manchester City at the weekend. That's the story for Liverpool right now."
He continued, pointing to Salah's decision to speak out at a time when focus should be on the team's upcoming fixtures: "Mo Salah, we're all quite aware, certainly the local reporters in Liverpool, that in the seven years he's been at the football club, he's stopped in the mixed zone twice, which is his right, absolutely fine. But he decided to stop for the third time away at Southampton on the back of winning Liverpool the game and putting that out."
Carragher stressed that Liverpool's main priority this season is not about the future of Salah, Virgil van Dijk, or Trent Alexander-Arnold, but rather about the club's pursuit of the Premier League title.
"The most important thing for Liverpool Football Club this season is not the future of Mo Salah, it's not the future of Virgil van Dijk, and it's not the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The most important thing is Liverpool winning the Premier League, that is more important than any of those players."
He concluded by accusing Salah of being selfish: "And if he continues to put comments out or his agent keeps putting cryptic tweets out, that's selfish, that's thinking about themselves and not the football club."
