Rumours suggest that the Reds could be nearing their first acquisition of the Arne Slot era, having had a quiet transfer window so far.

According to Japanese publication Sponichi, Liverpool are close to landing Japan international Takefusa Kubo from LALIGA outfit Real Sociedad in a deal worth £55 million.

The former Barcelona and Real Madrid player turned 23 years old last month and is considered to have enormous potential, with his style of play having been likened to Lionel Messi's in the past.

The report claims that the English giants see Kubo as a long-term replacement for Egyptian superstar Salah, who has just one year remaining on his contract at Anfield.

While the Japan winger is still seeking consistency in his game, he has impressive experience in Spain's top division despite his relatively young age.

Kubo has made 159 appearances in LALIGA for clubs such as Sociedad, Mallorca, Villarreal and Getafe, contributing to 40 goals in the process.
