Report: Real Madrid 2-1 Mallorca

Date: 30 August 2025

Venue: Santiago Bernabeu

Xabi Alonso handed a recall to Vinicius Junior, who starred off the bench last weekend, while Trent Alexander-Arnold was also brought back into the side after replacing Dani Carvajal.

Los Blancos dominated the possession in the early stages of the encounter, with Kylian Mbappe providing the big threat after he had a goal disallowed for offside inside the opening ten minutes.

Mallorca took the lead against the run of play on 18 minutes as striker Vedat Muriqi rose above his marker to nod home a cross from Pablo Torre to silence the Bernabeu.

The home side got back on level terms in the 37th minute when a well-worked corner ended with Dean Huijsen heading the ball into the six-yard area where Arda Guler was on hand to nod home at the far post.

Madrid completed the turnaround a minute later as Vinicius made it two goals in games by surging towards to the box and unleashing a low a strike that sailed into the far corner.

Los Blancos pushed for more goals and they thought they extended the lead on 55 minutes when Guler fired home following a scramble in the box, however the goal was ruled out of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) spotted an handball in the build-up.

Alonso opted to refresh he side after 70 minutes by withdrawing Alexander-Arnold and Vinicius for Carvajal and Rodrygo, who continues to be linked with a move away from the Spanish capital.

The Madrid outfit were unable to add to their advantage in the closing stages of the second period but they remained resolute at the back to hold on for the slender win, which saw the side go top of the table.
