The Portuguese, who returned to Stamford Bridge last season, is looking to lead Chelsea to a third Premier League title under his watch.
"Match after match. I try to read and to anticipate the game and the opponent," he told BT Sport.
"I try to read the condition of our players.
"I try to share information with my staff, with the medical staff, to try to feel if some players are in a risky situation, if some players need a rest, if some players need more minutes on the pitch, and try to keep a little balance."
Mourinho also revealed that his squad is very thin, which is one of the reasons why he selects a similar staring XI almost every week.
"As you know, at the moment our squad is a squad of 16 players and five very young players," he added.
"Five kids that are under 19 and come from the academy, and these kids are in a learning process."
