In his debut season in England after his big-money arrival from Borussia Dortmund, the left-footed striker helped inspire Pep Guardiola's team to an unforgettable treble, scoring 52 goals across all competitions.
Almost immediately after completing a move to the Citizens, his father, former City player Alf-Inge, suggested his son wanted to test himself in multiple leagues. Those comments led many to believe his time in England's top division would not be long-term.
Real Madrid have been rumoured to hold an interest in the 23-year-old, who has netted 17 times already in this campaign, though he still has four years remaining on his deal in Manchester.
Some reports have even suggested there is a release clause, that can only be triggered by clubs outside of England, in his contract at City that will become active at the end of the current season.
His agent Rafaela Pimenta was asked about her client's future in a recent interview, admitting that when both parties become open to ending their relationship, they will.
"Erling is the master of own destiny, always," she told Relevo.
"He will always do what's good for him and for Man City.
"When they all are open to make a change, it will happen. Erling will always be respectful."
