The Colombian government has confirmed that National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrillas are the organisation behind the abduction of Reds forward Luis Diaz's parents.
The winger's father and mother, Luis Manuel Diaz and Cilenis Marulanda, were taken from their home last weekend, and while the winger's mother has since been released, the guerrillas still have his dad captive.
"Today, we have had official knowledge that the kidnapping carried out on October 28 in Barrancas, department of La Guajira, of which Luis Manuel Diaz and Cilenis Marulanda, father and mother of the soccer player Luis Fernando Díaz, were victims, was perpetrated by a unit belonging to the ELN," a statement signed by Colombia's chief negotiator Otty Patino, who is leading a peace delegation, read.
"We demand that the ELN releases immediately Mr. Luis Manuel Díaz and we say as of now that they are entirely responsible to secure his life and integrity."
The kidnapping has reportedly put a strain on the peace talks that are being conducted within the framework of Colombian president Gustavo Petro's total peace policy with various armed groups, which looks to put an end to one of the world's longest-running conflicts.

It is believed, however, that the ELN plans to release Diaz's dad, with ELN representative Juan Carlos Cuellar said to have released a video in which he claims Diaz senior would be freed as soon as possible.
