Gareth Bale Explains Unusual Goal Celebrations

Gareth Bale Explains Unusual Goal Celebrations

Gareth Bale, who is the man of the hour at Tottenham Hotspur, has explained what his unusual "WM" celebration stands for, and also discussed teammate Lucas Moura's "L" celebration.

The Real Madrid loanee scored twice in Spurs' 4-0 win over Burnley on Sunday, and celebrated his first strike by flicking three fingers up and down in the shape of a W and an M.

Widespread reports in England suggest that the "MW" celebration is in recognition of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which helps fulfil the wishes of children with critical illnesses.

Bale has revealed that it was also a nod to the "Welsh Mafia" in the Lilywhites' dressing room, referring to himself and Wales teammates Ben Davies and Joe Rodon, while Moura came up with his own celebration in the same moment, with the "L" simply standing for "Lucas".

"Because everyone is saying ours is Welsh Mafia, he's decided to go with just Lucas," Bale told Spurs TV.

The 31-year-old, who has now been involved in seven goals in his past four appearances, also explained that his confidence is growing after his upswing in form.

"Yeah, I'm building. Yeah, it's taken a while, but yeah, I'm happy," Bale added.

"I'm growing in confidence, my fitness is getting better and obviously then I think you can see that in my performance."
