Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker's father tragically drowned in a lake near his holiday home in Brazil on Wednesday.
Jose Becker, father of the Reds shot-stopper and his brother Muriel, who is also a professional goalkeeper who plays for Fluminense, has drowned, local police confirmed, according to ESPN.
The 57-year-old had been swimming at what polioce described as "dam" on his property near the town of Rincao do Inferno in southern Brazil and was declared missing around 17:00 local time.
Firefighters and police had launched a search for him and located his body at 23:59, authorities told ESPN.
Brazilian club Internacional, whom both brothers played for, tweeted their condolences after the sad news was confirmed.
"It is with great sadness that we received the news of Jose Agostinho Becker's death, the father of our ex-goalkeepers Alisson and Muriel," the club wrote.
Alisson is now the second Liverpool member who has suffered the loss of a family member in 2021 after coach Jurgen Klopp's mother passed away in January.
