Result: West Ham United 1-4 Liverpool
Date: 04 November 2017
Venue: London Stadium
Sadio Mane returned to action as Liverpool recorded a 4-1 win over West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday evening.
Andrè Ayew could have opened the scoring in the ninth minute after going through on goal, but he fluffed his chance being gifted acres of space and hit the outside of the post.
Mohamed Salah put Jurgen Klopp's charges ahead in the 21st minute following a counter-attack with Sadio Mane central to the attack, allowing the Egyptian forward to poke home easily from close range, 0-1.
Joel Matip doubled the lead for the Reds three minutes later following defensive errors at the back, as he scored from close range on a rebound from Joe Hart's save.
Slaven Bilic's charges were erratic after half-an-hour and looked more prone to making mistakes at the back despite starting really well before they conceded the two goals in three minutes.
The heads were beginning to drop for Bilic's troops as Klopp's charges turned on the heat towards the final minutes of the first stanza, but they could not add to their two-goal cushion.
Manuel Lanzini pulled a goal back for the Hammers 10 minutes into the second half after latching onto a cross from Ayew to chip it over Simon Mignolet, 2-1.
However, the visitors restored their two-goal lead a minute later through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who had a second bite of the cherry after Hart saved his initial shot from close range, 1-3.
Salah got his second goal in the 75th minute after Mane played a through ball over the defence. The Egyptian forward had time and space to hit a low shot into the back of the net, 1-4.
The Reds were running riot and Salah almost completed his hat trick 10 minutes before time but his timely shot sailed over the bar from the edge of the box, as the score remained 4-1.
