Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg began his interim reign as manager with a 2-2 draw against Norwich City, with African superstar Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netting a brace.
In his first game in charge as interim boss, Ljungberg handed a first league start to Mustafi while Granit Xhaka made his first start since his outburst with the fans in October.
Despite Arsenal's lively start to the first half, it was Norwich who broke the deadlock on 20 minutes as Teemu Pukki was afforded time and space to unleash a strike that deflected past Bernd Leno.
Four minutes later, the Gunners were awarded penalty for a handball in the box. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stepped up and saw his shot saved by Tim Krul.
Although after a review from the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), a re-take was ordered after an encroachment from a Norwich player and Aubameyang made no mistake on the second attempt.
The game was played at an entertaining tempo and it was Norwich who got the next goal as Todd Cantwell collected a pass from the left flank before slotting into the bottom corner.
Ten minutes into the second half, Arsenal were level once again as Norwich's failure to deal with a corner allowed Aubameyang to fire home at the far post on 56 minutes.
It was end-to-end stuff in the second half, with both sides pushing for a third goal although Krul and Leno were on hand to make saves for their respective teams.
Ljungberg threw on Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli for the final 15 minutes as the Gunners pushed for a winning goal in the latter stages.
However, neither side could find a third goal and had to settle for a share of the spoils at Carrow Road on Sunday afternoon.
