English Premier League
Result: Manchester United v Huddersfield Town
Date: 03 February 2018
Venue: Old Trafford
Alexis Sánchez scored on his home debut for Manchester United as they saw off Huddersfield Town 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The headline news ahead of kick-off was that Scott McTominay started ahead of Paul Pogba, who was named on José Mourinho's bench.
The Red Devils went on the attack from the get-go and should have been awarded a penalty in the 19th minute, when Terence Kongolo clattered into McTominay in the air. However, referee Stuart Attwell was unmoved.
Sánchez tested Jonas Lössl with a well-hit long-range shot in the 27th minute. However, the keeper did well to dive to his right and parry it away.
United continued to dominate the game, but struggled to find a way through the Terriers' defence.
However, they finally broke the deadlock in the 55th minute. Juan Mata picked out Romelu Lukaku with a cross from the left and the Belgian fired home with a left-footed first time hit.
The hosts were finally awarded a long overdue penalty in the 68th minute, when Michael Hefele's rash challenge on Sánchez in the box was blown up. The Chilean was denied by Lössl from the spot, but slotted home on the rebound to double the lead.
There was no way back from there for a Huddersfield side that had been outplayed from the first whistle. Their dreadful run of form continues, while Manchester United have bounced back from their 2-0 defeat to Tottenham.
