Result: Huddersfield Town 1-0 Fulham
Date: 05 November 2018
Venue: John Smith's Stadiu
Huddersfield Town grabbed their first victory of the season after recording a 1-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League on Monday evening.
Following Newcastle United's win over the weekend, it was now left to Huddersfield and Fulham to try and close the gap on them.
More so for the home side being the only side after 10 matches to remain winless, having gathered only three points prior to the game.
A drama-filled way was how the game started off when Phillip Billing rattled the top of the crossbar with Sergio Rico standing no chance on 14 minutes.
With their well-documented goal-scoring troubles, Huddersfield's search didn't stop there as a shot on the turn from inside the box required Rico to a one-handed save for a corner.
From the corner, an own-goal by Timothy Fosu-Mensah broke the camel's back in their first home goal this season after nodding home at the far post.
Before halftime, a second seemed certain but a combination of factors prevented them from surging further in front and instead settled for a slender lead the break.
The two halftime changes from Fulham indicated a sign of intent from both sides, following the arrivals of Kevin McDonald and Cyrus Christie.
After a slow opening period, the Cottages started with more impetus in their forward movements as Aleksandar Mitrovic headed narrowly wide following a shot corner.
The Terriers gradually looked to increase their lead but found difficult to breakthrough the defence with a few misplaced passes too.
As for Fulham, their failure to make Jonas Lossl work became their undoing as the hosts secured its first victory of the season.
