English Premier League Report: Arsenal v Brighton and Hove Albion 05 December 2019

Teams: Arsenal 1-2 Brighton and Hove Albion

Date: 05 December 2019

Venue: Emirates Stadium

Arsenal extended their winless run to nine matches across all competitions following a shock 2-1 loss at home to Brighton and Hove Albion on Thursday evening.

The Gunners enjoyed a lot of the ball in the early stages of the encounter, but the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette were quiet for the most part.

Brighton nearly took the lead against the run of player after 23 minutes, when Aaron Connolly's header was saved by Bernd Leno while he was unable to connect with Neil Maupay's cross moments later.

The visitors grew stronger from thereon and were eventually rewarded with the opening goal as Arsenal's inability to clear the ball allowed Adam Webster to fire past Leno from 10-yards out.

The Gunners had to wait till the second half to get back on level terms when Lacazette nodded home Mesut Ozil's in-swinging corner five minutes into the stanza.

The hosts thought they had taken the lead on 63 minutes when David Luiz volleyed home Ozil's free-kick, but the goal was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

However, it was Brighton who got the next goal as Aaron Mooy did well to create space before picking out Maupay, who steered a header past Leno with ten minutes remaining in the half.

The Gunners were unable to claw their way back into the encounter and now slip to a ninth straight game without a win.
