Pep Guardiola has reportedly been linked with a surprise head coaching job.

With his contract at Manchester City set to expire at the end of next season, Pep Guardiola has reportedly emerged as a favourite for a surprise managerial position.

As things stand, Guardiola will be a free agent upon the conclusion of the 2024/25 campaign.

The 53-year-old's last two contract extensions with the Citizens have been short-term deals, two-year extensions to be exact, as murmurs of a potential departure from the Etihad Stadium continue to grow.

One team that might be hoping the Santpedor native finally calls time on his career with the Sky Blues will be the England national side.

On Tuesday, following the Three Lions' 2024 UEFA European Championship final defeat to Spain, Gareth Southgate confirmed that he would no longer be continuing as the team's head coach.

Since then, a number of names have been touted as potential successors to the former defender, but according to The Independent, the Football Association's preferred candidate is Guardiola.

It is understood that the chiefs at St. Georges Park are willing to wait for the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager to see out the remaining season of his contract in the Premier League before trying to appoint him as their new manager.

The same report claims that, in the interim, the FA would have England U21 head coach Lee Carsley take the reins of the senior side while they try to secure the three-time UEFA Champions League winner's signature.

The ex-midfielder has expressed an interest in venturing into international football, and was linked with the Brazil job when he made those remarks.
