Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he was "petrified" of taking the No. 7 jersey at Manchester United in 2003.
Ronaldo Refused To Greet Alves At Ballon D'Or Awards
Former Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson bought Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon for £12.2 million, and told the Portuguese star to take the iconic jersey, instead of his preferred No. 28.
Ronaldo has now explained why he was initially so scared of taking the number.
"When I arrived at United, I asked for 28 but the coach said, 'No, you will wear seven,'" he told the Daily Mirror.
"I was petrified as I knew Beckham wore that shirt. But I took on the challenge and, since then, it has been my lucky number.
"I have won everything in football with that shirt."

The only season the Portugal captain has not worn the No. 7 jersey at a club since was when he first joined Real Madrid in 2009.
