Argentine tactician Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be leading the race to become the Blues' next manager, with the 51-year-old said to have had a series of positive talks with the club over the past weekend.

According to The Telegraph, with the former Paris Saint-Germain boss in pole position to become Todd Boehly's newest appointment, the players are excited to have the Murphy native be their new coach because of his tactical acumen, motivational skills and experience.

With both Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique reportedly out of the running for the vacant position, Pochettino now appears on the verge of a return to London.

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany is also said to be greatly appreciated by the Blues hierarchy, and is believed to be second behind the former Argentina international in terms of leading candidates for the position.

The same report does suggest, though, that Real Madrid and Pochettino's former side Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in acquiring his services, but it seems Stamford Bridge is his most likely landing spot at this stage.

The former Espanyol and PSG central defender has a track record of developing young footballers, with Harry Kane and Dele Alli being the more notable examples, and given that Chelsea have had a youthful recruitment policy under the Boehly regime, the ex-Southampton head coach could the right man for the Blues job.
