Report: Brentford 1-2 Fulham
Date: 04 August 2020
Venue: Wembley Stadium
Fulham have secured promotion to the Premier League after defeating Kamohelo Mokotjo's Brentford 2-1 in the Championship play-off final on Tuesday night.
The Bafana Bafana international was not included in the matchday squad once again and has not featured for the Bees since 30 June 2020.
Brentford advanced to the final after seeing off Swansea City in the play-offs while Fulham managed to overcome Cardiff City.
After a quiet opening to the encounter, Fulham nearly got themselves the opener on 17 minutes through Josh Onomah in the box, but the winger's shot was cleared off the line.
Brentford were one of the form sides after the restart in June, but it took them a while to get flowing in the final third of the pitch as chances were few and far between in the first half.
Scott Parker's Fulham came out firing in the second half, with Bobby Reid going close to breaking the deadlock on two occasions in the opening 15 minutes.
The chances continued to fall as the second half went on, as Brentford's Ollie Watkins was picked out on the edge of box but the striker's powerful strike was sent straight to Marek Rodak on 71 minutes.
It was more of the same in the latter stages of the second half, with Mathias Jensen's skewed effort over the crossbar in the final few minutes sending the clash into extra-time.
It was Fulham who got the breakthrough at the end of first-half extra-time, as Joe Bryan spotted goalkeeper David Raya off his line and sent a curling in at the far post from 30 yards.
The win was sealed with three minutes left of the contest, with Bryan completing his brace with neat finish under Raya after combining with Aleksander Mitrovic.
Henrik Dalsgaard did pull one back for the Bees in second-half stoppage time, but Fulham held on to clinch promotion to the English top flight next season.
