Result: Walsall 1-4 Chelsea
Date: 23 September 2015
Venue: Banks' Stadium
Chelsea were comfortable 4-1 winners when they visited Walsall in a Capital One Cup clash on Wednesday evening.
The Premier League outfit wasted no time as they were on the attack as early as the 3rd minute with Ramires having a solid strike well saved in the bottom corner. Six minutes later, the Brazilian forward was back and this time made no mistake as he grabbed the game's opener to put Chelsea ahead 1-0.
The Blues were looking good in the early exchanges and Milan Lalkovic came close to levelling matters in the 25th minute, and Romaine Sawyers should have scored the equalizer as well ten minutes later.
Chelsea regained control of the encounter as the half-time break approached, Loic Remy stepped up five minutes before time to extend the visitors' lead to 2-0. The hosts upped the tempo in search of a goal of their own, and they were rewarded on the stroke of half-time when James O'Connor slotted a clinical strike into the bottom corner to ensure Walsall go into the break at 2-1.
Jose Mourinho's charges started the second stanza in the same fashion as they did the first with Kenedy scoring an early goal to make it 3-1, giving the Blues some breathing space. Loic Remy almost grabbed another goal for the visitors in the 64th minute but the Frenchman's effort was inches wide.
The hosts began to put together some nice passing moves as well, and Sawyers came close to pulling one back for Walsall in the 76th minute but his shot was just wide. They continued to look threatening with the clock running down and Sam Mantom also came close three minutes from time.
It was, however, Pedro that would have the final say as the Brazilian scored a stoppage time goal to hand Chelsea a comprehensive 4-1 victory.
