Mensah, who has reportedly joined forces with super-agent Jorge Mendes, confirmed that the Red Devils are after his signature, although he hasn't spoken to the club himself.
"It is true that Manchester United want me," he told Allsports.
"I have not spoken with anyone at Manchester United but I know that there are negotiations with my club."
The Vitoria de Guimaraes player has a contract with his Portuguese club until 2018, but the 20-year-old has gained United's interest after a few dazzling displays.
Mensah scored against Porto earlier this year, and mainly features behind the striker for Vitoria, although he can play deeper in midfield, and down the left-flank.
Louis van Gaal has started his transfer shopping early for next season, as he's already wrapped up a deal for PSV Eindhoven's forward, Memphis Depay.

Mensah has played 29 games this season and has scored five goals, while assisting a further five.
