10 Ex-Premier League Stars You Didn't Know Were Playing In The MLS

The MLS has boasted many household names since its inception 25 years ago, with David Beckham, who is now a franchise part-owner, arguably the biggest of the most high-profile footballer to have joined the division in the 21st century.

Beckham, co-owner of new MLS club Inter Miami, joined LA Galaxy from Real Madrid in 2007, spending five years in America before returning to Europe, where he would eventually retire with Paris Saint-Germain.

Over the years, many more big names followed in the former Manchester United man's footsteps by taking their careers to the MLS, including Gerrard, Lampard, Didier Drogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

At the moment, there is a younger crop of former Premier League players gearing up for the 2020 MLS campaign, some of whom you may have forgotten about.

Most remember Mexican striker Javier Hernandez, who recently joined LA Galaxy from Sevilla, but what about the likes of Alexander Buttner and Emiliano Insua? The former United and Liverpool fullbacks now represent New England Revolution and Galaxy, respectively, although there are a few more names that might have slipped from your memory.

Ex-Southampton midfielder Saphir Taider currently represents Montreal Impact, a team managed by legendary Arsenal striker Thierry Henry, who also works with former Stoke City forward Bojan Krkic. Perhaps strangely, the pair once actually played together at FC Barcelona.
