The Premier League is home to some of the brightest talent from Africa, and a number of players from the continent have gone on to captain their sides. Here are 10 African-born players who wore the armband, including stars from Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa.

Senegal-born midfielder Patrick Vieira, who famously represented France, became the first player born on the continent to lift the Premier League title when he captained Arsenal to glory in the 2003/04 campaign.
The 1998 FIFA World Cup winner went on to make 279 league appearances for the Gunners before enjoying spells with Juventus, Inter Milan and Manchester City.

The most recent African star to be named permanent captain of his club is Ivorian legend Kolo Toure who wore the armband for City during the 2009/10 campaign, before being replaced by Carlos Tevez.
Toure later enjoyed leadership roles at fellow Premier League side Liverpool and later with Celtic, and is currently part of Leicester City's backroom staff.

Other African captains include the South African duo of Lucas Radebe and Aaron Mokoena, Bolton Wanderers legend Jay-Jay Okocha as well as Ghana-born former Chelsea skipper Marcel Desailly. You can view the full list by scrolling through the gallery above.
