Ronaldo watched Real's 2-0 win over their bitter rivals in the second leg from the stands as he served the first game of his five-match suspension.

Los Blancos beat Barca after goals from Marco Asensio, who netted yet another long-range screamer, and Karim Benzema in the first half. In doing so, they extended their own record of scoring in consecutive games to 68 matches, a run dating back to April 2016.

Barcelona, meanwhile, remained goalless at the Santiago Bernabeu for the first time since October 2006, with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez hitting the woodwork in the second half.

It was also the first time in nine years that Real had more possession than Barcelona in an El Clasico, according to Spanish football statistician Alexis Martin-Tamayo.
