The Portuguese netted Real Madrid's 1-1 equaliser after Luis Suarez had put FC Barcelona in the lead.

In doing so, Ronaldo scored his 18th goal in El Clasicos, equalling the club record held by Los Blancos legend Alfredo Di Stefano, who also scored 18 times against their bitter rivals between 1953 and 1964.

However, the 33-year-old clashed with Gerard Pique as he pushed the ball over the line and was substituted off at half-time after picking up an injury.

Messi, meanwhile, wrote the headlines in the second half, putting Barca back into the lead after Sergi Roberto was sent off on the brink of half-time.

The Argentine finished a superb counter-attack to score his 26th El Clasico goal, extending his own lead as the all-time record scorer in El Clasicos, ahead of second-placed duo Ronaldo and Di Stefano.

In the end, the thrilling encounter finished 2-2 after Gareth Bale scored an equaliser in the 72nd minute.

The result kept FC Barcelona's unbeaten LaLiga run alive, with the Catalan giants having now gone 35 league games without defeat, and they could become the first "Invincibles" in the Spanish top flight since the league is played with 20 teams if they remain unbeaten against Villarreal, Levante and Real Sociedad.
