First-half goals from Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela, former Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi and defender Victor Cuesta put the Albiceleste firmly in charge in the match.

The second half saw the introduction of Lionel Messi, but this change did not herald more goals as the Argentines saw the game out.

The win confirmed the top spot in Group D for Argentina, who claimed maximum points from their matches, while Chile ended up second with six points.

Chile 4-2 Panama

Defending Copa America champions Chile booked their place in the quarter-finals after they saw off Panama 4-2 on Wednesday.

Arsenal superstar Alexis Sanchez and Hoffenheim striker Eduardo Vargas both scored braces on the night, helping the team finish second in their group.

Panama defender Miguel Camargo gave Panama an early lead after his long-range effort beat Claudio Bravo, but Vargas' two first-half goals saw Chile take the lead into the break.

In the second half, the Chileans continued on the front foot, with Sanchez's two strikes sealing the deal for the champions, while Panama could only grab a consolation goal through Abdiel Arroyo in the 75th minute.
